Join Sumiya for a long weekend of yoga, meditation and yoga nidra as she guides you inwards to meet yourself on the mat.
Sumiya uses the Ashtanga Yoga sequence, to allow you to explore your own unique alignment. She believes that yoga is an ‘inside job’ and she will help you find a deeper internal connection using breath and bandhas.
Sumiya holds the retreat space in a nurturing yet lighthearted way to meet each student wherever they are at. She draws on the wisdom of her own teachers - Nancy Gilgoff and her Mum (!). Both continue to support and inspire her with much love and patience and encourage her to ‘keep it real’.
There is plenty of space around the sessions for rest, relaxation and to allow whatever comes up individually and for the group to be explored. After all, we are all in it together.
A little yoga experience is helpful for this retreat although it does not need to be in the Ashtanga method. The only requirements are a curiosity and desire to explore.
Sumiya has been practising various forms of yoga for many years. She came to Ashtanga Yoga by chance 10 years ago.
Sumiya is the founder of Love & Lentils Yoga based in Lewes, East Sussex loveandlentils.net
Love & Lentils started as Sumiya's travel blog in 2010. The idea was that if both love and lentils could be found in each place she visited, there would be enough to survive and to thrive. She did both and had a wonderful journey of exploration through Thailand, India and Sri Lanka.
Sumiya is a fully qualified yoga teacher. Her training is in ashtanga vinyasa yoga, a dynamic form of yoga that moves through a series of postures in a meditative way. She continues to practice and explore this form of yoga with her teacher Nancy Gilgoff based on Maui.
Sumiya's teaching is based on the Ashtanga Yoga method but often adopts a gentler approach as required.
Before training to teach yoga, Sumiya was (for a long time) a lawyer in London and Sydney. Through this she brings a genuine understanding of the pressures of a busy life and the importance of time out.
